In this passage, we address a crucial issue: the strategic connection between university residences and tourist rentals. Students in Southern Italy can become real 'lungs' for cities during the tourist season.
In what way? Here we highlight how, in the summer months, when students are not present, students can be used as accommodation for tourists. This can help to avoid that, due to increasing gentrification, other real estate units in central areas of cities are used exclusively for tourist rental, thus preserving housing options for those looking for stable accommodation all year round.
